(Mostly) Official Charter for the Dragoons of Theramore

*** This is more a historical document than a living policy. Although we believe in the principles below, we are not a structured guild at this time. ***

The Charter

This document comprises all of the rules and guiding principles for the guild The Dragoons of Theramore. It shall be considered a binding contract among all the members of the guild. In this charter, members of the Dragoons of Theramore are occasionally referred to as DOTs.

Amendment Process

This charter may be amended only by a two-thirds majority vote of the Dragoons of Theramore Council. (A two-thirds majority will calculated by rounding up to the nearest whole number. For instance, if there are seven members on the council, a two-thirds majority will be five.)

The Mission of the Dragoons of Theramore

The Dragoons of Theramore primarily exists for the following reasons:

I. To provide a strong environment of camaraderie within the guild, creating a fun, good-natured community that makes the game more enjoyable for all.
II. To provide a support network for The Dragoons of Theramore in the achievement of their goals.
III. To defend the Alliance against any all Horde agression.

Code of Conduct

All members of The Dragoons of Theramore are bound to adhere to the following code of conduct. Failure to do so will result in disciplinary action as set forth in the section of the charter by that name.

I. At all times, DOTs should behave in a manner that will contribute favorably to the guild's reputation.

II. DOTs should come to the aid of fellow guild members in need whenever possible, provided they are within a reasonable distance and able to meaningfully help.

III. DOTs should show respect to other players at all times, even enemies. While good-natured harassment is an appropriate part of PvP, DOTs should never engage in any such activity that is mean-spirited or with the intent to cause emotional distress to another player. DOT should strive to keep PvP fun for everyone, which means that excessive nastiness is out of place.

IV. In regards to questing, DOTs should make every effort to complete quests they have begun with other players. Notably "Gather X Item" quests should be completed for the entire party before moving on to their next quest.

V. Loot stealing (The act of looting a chest, or gathering a resource, while another player is fighting a mob protecting said loot) from Alliance characters is prohibited.

VI. Unless determined otherwise by the party, DOT standard loot rules are:

1) Need if the character you are playing will equip the item as an upgrade. If you are unsure, ASK. If you want the item for your alt, and no one else in the group needs the item, ask if you can need it for your alt.
2) Greed the item if you just would like to have it or give it to an alt.
3) Unused Bind on Pickup items and low value blues are to be disenchanted. If no enchanter is in the group, roll Greed.
4) Always re-read all item descriptions before accepting Bind on Pickup.
5) If an item is a minor upgrade to you but a major upgrade to another party member, it is appreciated if you pass the item.

VII. DOTs must at all times adhere to the user license agreement set forth by Blizzard. This means, in part, that knowingly exploiting is unacceptable.

VIII. DOTs are bound to follow all direct orders or instructions given by members of the council. The council has the final say in all matters pertaining to the guild.

IX. DOTs should take care to not abuse guild chat. Guild chat is an acceptable means to have conversations of any sort, but any talk that is likely to incite discord within the guild should be confined to private chat. Also, DOTs should be sensitive to occasions when guild chat is being used heavily to coordinate PvP combat or for other strategic purposes, and in such cases DOTs should refrain from unnecessary use of guild chat that might disrupt important communications.

X. DOTs are duty-bound to report any gross violations of these rules by other members to the council or to a representative appointed by the council.

XI. All members, including the council, are bound to adhere to this code of conduct.

The DOT Council

I. The DOT Council is the final authority in all matters concerning the guild.

II. The council must always be an odd number. The council may choose to increase or decrease in size, but it must always be an odd number.

III. Council members are elected by a council vote, and once elected they serve for life unless they resign or are voted off the council by a unanimous vote of the other council members.

IV. Council members shall each have individual authority over specific areas of activity as agreed upon by council vote and may make decisions accordingly. For instance, if the council has agreed by vote that one of its members is in charge of recruitment, then that council member has the final authority over the recruitment process, provided he works within the guidelines laid out in this charter.

V. For any decisions that affect the guild and that authority has not already been given to a specific council member, a council vote is required. All members of the council need not be present for a vote to be binding, but more than half (a quorum) must be present. Thus, if there are seven council members, four must be present to vote. If that vote is split evenly, a fifth council member must be reached to cast the deciding vote. For any council vote, the council must contact every council member who is online at the time so that that council member can participate in the vote if he chooses.

VI. There are some situations in which a council vote must be a two-thirds majority in order for a resolution to pass, and all council members must be present. These situations are:

a. Banishing a member from the guild.
b. Amending the charter.
c. Increasing or decreasing the size of the council.
d. Designating a guild member to an official position outside the scope of an individual council member's authority.

VII. The council may create non-council positions that give intermediate authority to other players. The council may choose to allow a guild-wide vote or a simple council vote for such positions. Individual council members may appoint players to such positions without a vote if the position falls within their agreed-upon authority. For instance, a council member who is the commander of the PvP forces may appoint officers in those forces as he sees fit.

Disciplinary Action

I. Any player found to be in gross violation of any of the rules or principles spelled out in this charter is subject to disciplinary action, which can include guild donations, demotion, temporary or permanent banishment from the guild.

II. If a serious violation comes to the attention of a council member, that council member has the responsibility to judge the seriousness of the offense. If other council members are online, they should be consulted, but if none are available, then an individual council member can take preliminary action as necessary. Such action may consist of a warning, or if the offense is serious enough to warrant it, of temporary removal from the guild until the full council can deliberate the violation.

III. If a player is issued a warning by any council member, that council member must notify all other council members via the Council forum on the DOT Website describing what occurred so that the warning becomes a matter of record.

IV. A player who is temporarily removed from the guild may ask for a private conference with the guild council and any relevant parties to discuss the issue. A player who is temporarily removed from the guild is to be treated with respect by other DOTs.

V. Banishment is permanent unless otherwise specified at the time. Banished players are to be treated with respect. They are not to be considered hostile to the guild unless specified otherwise.

Recruitment

I. In order to be considered for DOT membership, a player must be an Alliance character.

II. New recruits will have a probationary period of no less than one week before they may be accepted as a full member into the guild.

III. Before being granted probationary status, the recruit must read and swear allegiance to the DOT charter.

IV. Any member may recommend a recruit for membership, but only council members can grant probationary status or full membership into the guild.

V. Members who recommend a recruit are responsible to see that they become integrated into the guild. They should help members get to know and feel comfortable talking in guild chat and on the guild ventrillo server. If the member needs help with a task, their sponsor should help coordinate getting that help.

VI. Real Life friends of full members are allowed to bypass the probationary period.

VII. Members are required to be 18 or over unless sponsored by a member of the DoT Council.

Chapter Sovereignty

As DOT is a multi-game, multi-server guild, each with their own distinct differences, the following considerations are made.

I. Members in other DOT Chapters are allowed to bypass the probationary period.

II. The Council of Garona is the final say in guild matters concerning the World of Warcraft Garona Server.
